About us
Students Fight Cancer (SFC) was established in 2019 and is part of Kankeronderzoekfonds Limburg. The board consists of eight students from Maastricht, alle from different fields of study. This board is renewed every year.
Since its inception, SFC has already grown tremendously, organizing smaller projects in addition to its annual major event. Last year 'The Run to Fight Cancer' was put down for the third time, raising a total of over €112,683 for cancer research at MUMC+.
In addition to fundraisers, SFC also tries to educate students about the dangers of cancer and the research we support. We have an extensive network on various social media where we post personal stories and updates about the studies.
In order to be able to raise as much money as possible this year, we are counting on all Maastricht students. However, the run is an event open to everyone; young, old, student or not. Every participant contributes. For this help we are very grateful!
Lynn Dekker
President
Last year I joined the run of Students Fight Cancer to raise as much money as possible. I did this partly for my mother who is still fighting this disease. New experimental research has been able to extend my mother's life expectancy, and I would like to see more of these kinds of developments. That is why I am committed to be a part of the board of SFC this year, in which I hope we can raise as much funds as possible for the research that we support.
We can only do this with your support!
Isa Teeuwen
Secretary
Hey, I'm Isa Teeuwen, 22 years old and in my second year of studying Health Sciences. I'm taking on the role of secretary in our board. I'm really driven to deal with a major concern: the increasing cancer risk in the Netherlands. It's alarming that 1 in 2 Dutch people now face the possibility of getting cancer, meaning almost everyone will be profoundly impacted by this horrible disease in one way or another.
As part of this enthusiastic board, we're determined to raise a lot of money so big strides can be made in addressing this growing health issue. But we can't do it without your help. Will you be a part of our journey to reach our goals? Your support means a lot to us.
Nino van Beek
Treasurer
Hi! I am Nino van Beek, 21 years young and studying Health Sciences at the University of Maastricht. This year I will occupy the position of treasurer.
A board year at Students Fight Cancer is a special opportunity to contribute to research into this terrible disease. I have personally experienced how difficult it can be to cope with the disease up close and I am therefore extremely motivated to help in the fight against cancer. It is also a great opportunity to challenge and develop myself. I'm really looking forward to a year full of good activities, will you help too?

We will be responsible for the organized activities throughout the year, with the main activity being the ‘The Run to Fight Cancer’ in April. I am looking forward to bringing Student Fight Cancer to the attention of Maastricht. With the goal of supporting research both for patients during their illness, but also for better quality of life after cancer.
Hey, I'm Lucas Loman and I'm 19 years old. I was born in Utrecht and started studying medicine in Maastricht. I will fulfill the role of Activities Manager with Carlijn this year. I’m really looking forward to it because I can learn a lot both professionally and personally. Hello! My name is Emma Veenman, 20 years old and I am in my third year at the Hotel Management School Maastricht. As Acquisition manager, I will be responsible for seeking collaborations with partners and for gathering sponsors to help raise funds for the research projects at MUMC+.
The impact that cancer has on individuals and their loved ones is significant and difficult.
A board year at Students Fight Cancer gives me the opportunity to contribute, make a difference in the fight against this terrible disease and hopefully help improve the lives of people who are dealing with or have dealt with this disease.
I'm ready, will you join the fight?
Hi! My name is Carmen and i’m 22 years old. I am in my 4th year of Finance & Control. Together with Emma, I will work as an acquisition manager. Unfortunately, I have witnessed firsthand what a terrible disease cancer is. But i also see how important it is that research continues to be done. By raising as much money as possible together, we can contribute to a better treatment and/or faster recovery. Will you help us?

Hello, I'm Sabine, 21 years old and currently in my third year of medicine. Upcoming year I will be running our Public Relations.
I am looking forward to dedicating myself to charity this year and reaching out to as many people as possible so that they too can get involved in the research we support! Cancer is a very impactful disease in which significant advances have been made in its treatment in the past few years. By committing to cancer research, we hope to give even more people the chance for a better future.
